1:00 pmAll courses close at 1:00 pm. (We'll start picking up controls at 1:00 pm. Out of consideration for the meet volunteers, please check in and download at the Finish no later than 1:00 pm even if you haven't completed your course.)
2:00 pmEveryone is invited to a Pizza Party at Carolyn's house in Manitou Springs, starting at about 2:00 pm. Carolyn will provide Savelli's pizza, pop, and limited quantities of beer/wine. RSVP not necessary. Directions from Carolyn: 506 Crystal Hills Blvd. Take the Business 24 exit, not Ridge Rd or 31st St -- the construction traffic is awful. Go up Crystal Park Rd not Crystal Hills. Don't try to go to the Safeway by 31st St, it will take an hour. No one needs to bring anything, but if you do, stop in Woodland Park or Jack's Liquor at the bottom of Crystal Park Rd.

  • Courses:

Note: Cattle will be grazing in the area during our meet, so please do your best to avoid them. Any gates that are opened must be immediately closed. There are many old pipes sticking up on the property, so be on the lookout for them and keep safety in mind.

    Saturday, July 29th -- Night-O:

    • The Night-O will have two course options:

      • Short (Intermediate) -- 2.6 km, 115 m climb, 8 controls.

      • Long (Advanced) -- 4.3 km, 195 m climb, 10 controls.

    • The Night-O courses are suitable for Intermediate and Advanced orienteers only. You may participate in the Night-O as an Individual or as a Team.

Attention. Remember to carry a safety whistle and a back-up light source for the Night-O (batteries, spare flashlight, spare headlamp, etc.). Also, be prepared for cold and rainy weather.

Sunday, July 30th -- Standard Orienteering Meet:

    • There will be Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced course options on Sunday -- Yellow, Orange, Brown, Green, and Red. (You can find an explanation of the orienteering course color scheme at our FAQs page.)

    • The Beginner course (Yellow) will be suitable for beginners of all ages -- kids, adults, families, etc.

    • You can complete any of the courses as an Individual or as a Team. (Teams of just two or three work better than large teams.)

    • You are free to try multiple courses (for an extra $5 per course), as long as you finish by the course closure time (1:00 pm).

    • There are no water controls on any courses, but there will be water set out on at least two places along FS 346 that will be approximately en route between controls at around halfway through each course. Runners on longer courses (and runners on all courses if it's a hot day) should probably carry their own water.

    • Course Setter's Notes:

      - Yellow: This is a slightly challenging Yellow on which the 2-3 tougher legs will have at least one route choice requiring good terrain reading and at least one route choice allowing the use of linear features.

      - Orange: At a hilltop near #7, there is a small, partially fenced-in research area. Please do not enter or disrupt this area. It is marked as out of bounds on the map, but it is a very small area and may be hard to notice on the map. The Orange course offers a mix of easy and challenging legs with good route choice options (direct routes requiring good terrain reading or indirect routes along linear features).

      - Safety Bearing: If south of FS 346, go north to FS 346. If north of FS 346, go south or southwest to FS346.
